Duties of the Private Soldier:

Duties of the Private Soldier:

(1)        Deportment. i.e. military courtesy, saluting (Kautz Noncom 47-62)

(2)        Learn and apply the School of the Soldier (Kautz Noncom 65), Company, Skirmishers (Kautz Noncom136-141), and Bayonet drill under instruction of the Non Commissioned officers

(3)        Camp Duties (Kautz Noncom 70-74)

(4)        Guard duty (Kautz  Noncom 75-97)

(5)        Fatigue Duty i.e. laboring (Kautz Noncom 102-106)

(6)        Availability for Daily Duties i.e. cook, clerks, orderlies (Kautz Noncom 108-114)

(7)        Weapon field cleaning

(8)        Provide and wear the uniform and equipment as set forth by the unit

(9)        Strive to improve their 19th century impression

(10)      Be prepared to discuss and explain the relevance of the given event and hobby to/with spectators

(11)      All inferiors are required to obey in good faith all lawful orders of superiors appointed over them. (Regulations I.1)

 

           

Duties of the Corporal:

(1)        Acquire and Read Casey's Infantry Tactics Vol. #1 1862

(2)        Knowledge of the duties of 2nd Sergeant (Casey's 32)

(3)        The job of color-guard (Casey's 43)

(4)        Practiced in the art of giving commands (Casey's 50-51)

(5)        Knowledge of the school of the soldier (Casey's Vol. I, Title II) including firing with the intent to be able to explain clearly to teach (Casey's 66, 68)

(6)        Lead fatigue duties (Kautz Noncom 103, 342-346)

(7)        “Corporal of the Guard” Duties.  Lead and instruct the privates in the duty. (Kautz Noncom 326-338)

(8)        “Corporal of the Police” Duties.  (Kautz Noncom 339-341) In addition, maintain camp authenticity standards as set forth by the unit.

(9)        An example and role model to the soldiers

(10)      Provide and wear the uniform of a Corporal as set forth by the unit

(11)      Provide the uniform of a Private and be prepared to assume the role by the command of a higher rank Nco/officer.

(12)      When in a "leadership" role, looks out for the health, safety, and well being of their charge.

 

 

Duties of the 2nd Sergeant:

(1)        Knowledge of all Duties of the Corporal

(2)        Familiarly with Casey's Infantry tactics Vol. #1.  By Casey's 51 they should be able to recite.

(3)        Knowledge of the duties of the 1st Sergeant (Casey's 32)

(4)        File closer in battalion formation in order of battle (Kautz Noncom 368-372) weapon safety, opening ranks

(5)        Left guide in Company formation (Casey's 26)

(6)        The job of Color bearer (Casey's 43) (Kautz Noncom 418)

(7)        Knowledge of the position "general guide" in battalion formation (Casey's 47, 64)

(8)        Knowledge of the drill for Skirmishers (Casey's Vol. 1, Title IV with the intent to be able to explain clearly to teach (Casey's 64)

(9)        Knowledge of the School of the Company (Casey's Vol. 1, Title III) with the intent to be able to explain clearly to teach (Casey's 64)

(10)      Duties of the “Sergeant of the Guard”.  Kautz Noncom 375-382)

(11)      Provide and wear the Uniform of the Sergeant as set forth by the unit.

(12)      Lead larger fatigue duties (Kautz Noncom 397-399)

(13)      Provide the uniform of a Private and be prepared to assume the role by command of a higher rank Nco/officer.  

(14)      Looks out for the health, safety, and well being of the soldiers. Checks water supply and use, looks after injured soldiers, etc. 

 

Duties of the 1st Sergeant:

(1)        Knowledge of all duties of the Corporal, and 2nd Sergeant

(2)        Knowledge of the duties of the 2nd Lieutenant (Casey's 32)

(3)        Right guide and "covering" Sergeant (Casey's 21)

(4)        Lead Daily duties (Kautz Noncom 111)

(5)        Keep a roster (Kautz Noncom 72)

(6)        Leadership of the company in place of the Officers “Foreman” (Kautz Noncom 421, 479-484)

(7)        Forming the company and Roll calls (Kautz Noncom 425-430)

(8)        Reports and records as prescribed by the officer (Kautz NonCom  431-432, 440)

(9)        Dress parade maneuvers

(10)      Attends NCO calls

(11)      Discipline in the ranks and camp.  (Military authority is exercised with firmness, but with kindness and justice.  Superiors of every grade are forbidden tyrannical conduct and abusive language (Regulations I.2-3))

(12)      Weapon inspections
